Lesley Millar-Nicholson is the Director of the Technology Licensing Office (TLO) at MIT. Until July 2016, she served as the Director of the Office of Technology Management (OTM) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a position she held since 2006. She originally entered tech transfer at Illinois in 2002 as an Engineering Technology Manager having previously been an intern recruited to assist in managing a backlog of invention disclosures. As Director of the MIT TLO, Ms. Millar-Nicholson leads a team of more than 40 professional staff and interns who work with faculty, staff, corporations, and venture groups to commercialize MIT and Lincoln Lab intellectual property arising from the more than $1.5B in research conducted at those two entities.
Ms. Millar-Nicholson is a frequent speaker at technology transfer seminars and professional meetings. She is on the Board of Governors of Certified Licensing Professionals Inc., a member of the LES IP100 Advisory Board, on the Board of Managers of Illinois Ventures LLC
and is a regular contributor to articles and webinars for Technology Transfer Tactics. For several years she has consulted with Enterprise Ireland to assist in the evaluation of technology transfer programs at Universities and Colleges in Ireland. She is a member of both the Licensing Executive Society and Association of University Technology Managers. A native of Scotland, Ms. Millar-Nicholson has a B.Ed. an M.Ed and an MBA. She is also a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP).
Her hobbies include jogging, travelling and spending time with her wife and 8 year old daughter.
