The continuing competence of certified licensing professionals is a major interest of the CLP, Inc. Certified
Licensing Professionals (CLPs) are required to demonstrate continued
competence in the field of licensing to maintain their certification status. The CLP credential is granted for a three-year period. To maintain the credential, candidates must earn at least 40 hours of continuing education (CE) during the three-year certification period. Candidates can be earned through a variety of activities such as speaking at industry events, participating in industry events, writing, full-time employment, etc.
Below is a summary of the recertification requirements. Download the full CLP Certification Renewal Policy (updated on December 6, 2011) (available in a PDF format) with complete details on the following:

Recertification Timeframe
The
CLP Board of Governors has determined, after considering a large scope
of issues that face licensing professionals and the frequency at which
information is updated and expanded, that the CLP credential will be
recognized for a period of three (3) years from the last day of the
month in which certification was earned. If certification is not
renewed, it expires the last day of the month, three (3) years after
certification was initially earned. For example, if a candidate took
and passed the CLP exam on January 15, 2009, they are required to renew
their credential by January 31, 2012 before it expires.
Recertification Requirements
Individuals who hold the CLP designation can renew their credential by completing and submitting an online renewal application attesting to 40 continuing education (CE) credits by the last day of the month, three (3) months prior to the certificant's expiration date. Please note that CLP accepts CE credit related to the field of licensing and the content covered on the CLP exam.
Renewal candidates must still be active in the licensing field to qualify for renewal.
Renewal candidates must pay the renewal fee of $400 to qualify for renewal.
